Painting and Coating

The newly developed iron oxide dispersant offers the dual advantages of electrostatic and steric stabilization. Even under long-term storage conditions, it provides lasting pigment stability and consistently maintains high tinting strength. Furthermore, this additive reduces the viscosity of the pigment concentrate, allowing for higher pigment loading and reducing the amount of concentrate needed to cover a given surface area.

The increasing demand in the construction industry for pigments and fillers with higher opacity and coloring power has led to more strict performance requirements for iron oxide dispersants. This necessitates the availability of iron oxide powders in various colors and using different manufacturing processes.

Ceramics

Ceramics is one of the industries where iron oxide is most widely used. Ceramic glaze manufacturers tend to use Huayuan New Materials' iron oxide red pigment to formulate the various color shades they require.

Rubber and Plastics

Iron oxide (especially red iron oxide) plays a dual role in the rubber and plastics industry: as both an inorganic pigment and a functional filler.

Tinting strength: Provides a stable, weather-resistant red/reddish-brown hue.

Reinforcement and modification: improving the heat resistance, aging resistance, and electrical insulation properties of rubber/plastics

In the rubber and plastics industry, iron oxide is not simply used for "adding color"¡ªit's both an aesthetic enhancer and a performance booster!

By carefully controlling its purity, particle size, pH, and dispersibility, it's possible to maintain the desired color while simultaneously improving the product's durability, safety, and added value

Paper making

Iron oxide pigments are inorganic pigments used as fillers in certain specialty papers, but their application is not widespread. These pigments belong to the group of iron-based colorants, and typically only four types are used: iron oxide red¡¢yellow¡¢black and brown

The common characteristics of iron oxide pigment are that they are insoluble in water and have no affinity for pulp fibers.  They need to be fixed onto the fibers with the help of alum to achieve coloring and act as a filler. Iron oxide pigments have strong lightfastness and good covering power

In high-grade decorative base papers (such as pine wood pulp paper), iron oxide pigments not only act as fillers but can also partially replace expensive titanium dioxide, while simultaneously providing coloring functions and replacing costly and highly polluted organic dyes

Color fastness (lightfastness)    ¡Ý level 7 (ISO 105-B02) Luxury goods/automotive interiors require a level 8 rating, and new pigments like BioBlack TX can achieve 8/8.

Abrasion resistance  Dry rubbing: ¡Ý4th grade, Wet rubbing: ¡Ý3rd grade  If iron oxide is poorly dispersed, it is prone to fading; optimization can improve the color fastness by 1¨C2 grades.

Heavy metal content      Compliant with REACH and RoHS      Lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium must not be detectable; this is a mandatory requirement for export.

Dispersion  Particle size: 0.4¨C0.7 ¦Ìm, 3000 mesh or finer   Needle-shaped (yellow) or spherical (red/black), affecting the uniformity of penetration.

pH adaptability   3¨C8 (depending on the type of leather)     Vegetable-tanned leather is slightly acidic (pH 3¨C5) and requires stable iron oxide to prevent discoloration.

Tinting strength 95¨C105% (compared with  the standard sample)   High purity (FeO ¡Ý96%) ensures color saturation.

Water-soluble salt  ¡Ü0.3%      Excessive amounts can cause the leather to "whiten" or affect the adhesion of the coating.

FeO content: ¡Ý98.0%  To ensure stability of tinting strength.

Water-soluble matter ¡Ü0.5%  (To prevent dissolved impurities from affecting the efficacy of the medication)

Acid-insoluble matter: ¡Ü0.3%  To Guarantee purity

Heavy metal limits  Lead (Pb) ¡Ü 0.001%  Arsenic (As) ¡Ü 0.0003%  Cadmium, mercury, etc., must not be detectable.     To comply with ICH Q3D Elemental Impurities Guideline.

Product Performance Overview

It has strong chemical and physical stability

Alkali resistance: It is very stable against any weak or strong alkaline substances, and is especially suitable for the use with cement and limestone mortar during construction. It will not powderize in cement and maintain its strength.

Acid resistance: It has some resistance to weak acids, but it can dissolve in strong acids, especially when the  concentration is high.

Lightfastness: It will not change color even under strong sunlight

Heat resistance: The color is stable within a certain temperature range, but if the temperature exceeds the limit, the color will change, and the higher the temperature, the more pronounced the color change (we have some high-temperature resistant grades that can operate at temperatures up to 1150 degrees s).

Various Colors

Commons colors

Red iron oxide: exhibits a reddish-brown to deep red color

Yellow iron oxide: exhibits yellow tone

Black iron oxide: exhibits black or dark gray.

Brown iron oxide: Usually a mixture of red, yellow, and black iron oxides

These pigments can be used for surface coloring of leather (such as spraying or brushing), giving the leather the desired color

Iron oxide pigments have fine particles and good dispersibility, which can effectively cover imperfections on the leather surface.

It possesses excellent lightfastness and weather resistance, preventing leather products from fading easily during prolonged use or exposure to sunlight.

Compared to some organic pigments which contains heavy metals (such as chromium, lead, and cadmium), iron oxide is an inorganic pigment with low toxicity and complies with environmental regulations (such as REACH and RoHS).

It is safer to use this in leather products that come into contact with the human body, such as footwear, clothing, and furniture.
